Vicki Thornton - Seamstress ![]() I was born in California and came to the Portland area when I was nine years old. I had watched my mother sew for years, and at nine, I began sewing doll clothes for my Barbies. I wanted to learn to sew in the worst way, but my mother made me wait until I took my first home economics class, buying the ugliest fabric for my first project. It turned out wonderful and from then on, I had the bug. I began making my own school clothes at age 12. After High School I went on to college to study accounting. I worked over fifteen years in that field and related fields. I married, raised three children, now all adults, and I have two grandchildren. In 1992 I started my own sewing business and named it Spool of Thought, which I am still running today. I do alterations, make custom clothing, work on weddings and teach sewing lessons. In 2005 I began a custom baby line called "Ruby's Baby Designs", named after my mother. I became involved with Fairy Cove Silks this year, 2009, when I met the owner,Meagan Maloney, and began constructing many of the items sold by her company today. I thoroughly enjoy working with Meagan on her beautiful line of dance clothing and look forward to a long relationship. More of Vicki's work:
