2/27/09 Deb's (just in from NY) Modeled product ROYAL FANTASY colors Gypsy Tribal Costume

I'll be the first to admit it: I'm a true silkaholic! Thank goodness I have found Fairy Cove Silks because now I can fully indulge my silk passion. The individual dance items offered are perfect for layering and combining into a unique and beautiful costume. The color choices are endless and the silk itself is of highest quality; the light weight and rich texture make it a sheer joy to dance in. My latest dance outfit from Fairy Cove features the vibrant purples and aquas of the Royal Fantasy color blend. Here is what I put together for my costume:

Debra Polirer of NY, USA

Fairy Cove items:

- satin halter top (sized to order)
- silk gypsy tie-front choli (sized to order)
- silk harem pants (free size)
- triangular fringed hipscarf
- silk rectangular scarves of various lengths
- silk semi-circular veil

Other items:

- silk double layer handkerchief skirt
- coordinating jewelry

(All the Fairy Cove items were purchased specifically to coordinate with a purple/aqua silk handkerchief skirt I had previously bought from the Renaissance Faire. . . the Royal Fantasy colors worked perfectly)

In putting the costume together, it's all about layering. On top, the gypsy choli is worn tied over the halter choli. I often like to use one of the long scarves as a modesty drape: the scarf is first folded in half and knotted around the center of the halter, then each side is spread apart and pinned to the underside of the bottom edge of the halter, allowing the long pieces to hang down over the stomach and hips. As for the bottom half of the costume, the skirt is worn over the harem pants (allowing for some coverage because the harem pants are split up each leg), and the hip scarf is worn over the skirt. Personally, I love the look of handkerchief skirts, but another great option would be a split skirt, panel skirt or one of Fairy Cove's own petal skirts: the idea is to wear a skirt that allows for glimpses of the harem pants beneath it. The hip scarf can be knotted in front or else more toward the side (a safety pin or two will help it stay in place during those shimmies). The veil can be worn sari-style as part of the costume (usually before or after the performance) if desired. I prefer semi-circular over rectangular veils because I am on the shorter side (5'2") and don't wish to trip over it. The semi-circular shape also lends itself better to veilwork (in my own experience).

Among all the chiffons and velvets, coins and sequins, a silk outfit really stands out in its relative simplicity, rich texture and glorious colors. And because it's so lightweight, wearing all those layers is never a problem. You just have to make sure to place a few pins where needed (silk is slippery) and be sure to use plenty of static-guard so everything will flow freely and not stick together. If you have never danced in silk before, you will be in for a real treat because nothing on earth moves like silk. Once you dance in it, you will never want to go back to anything else! I am very happy to own not one but two beautiful silk outfits from Fairy Cove (Royal Fantasy and Silk Road); they are among my favorites in my dance wardrobe and always get me noticed at performances : )
